The
Lourdes Skill Centre started in August 2005 after the parish priest,
Fr.Augustine had approached Ms. Elizabeth Tan, the chairperson
of the Archdiocesan Commision for Migrants and Interants
to look into the possibilty of setting up
a small skill centre for the Tamil speaking migrants who come
to our parish. ACMI gave us support with computers and furniture
and we started Basic Computer and English classes. These classes
were held on Sundays from 11.30am to 4.30pm. The teachers give
of their services on a volunteer basis and we are looking for
more teachers. The classes are held from January to May and from
July to December. They are open to all Tamil speaking migrants
in Singapore irrespective of their religion.
Please note : Due to the Renovation and Restoration of the
Church in 2010 and the resulting shortage of rooms at the Parish
Centre, there will be no computer and English classes in the year
2010. We are very sorry about this arrangement and we will keep
you informed in good time when the classess will resume again.
